The first 80 Anderson students and residents to come get a FREE "Save Our 'Skins" T-Shirt!

Interview with Tony Henson, Eunice Davidson and LeAnn Starks on the Bill Cunningham Show 5/18/2018

Interesting comparison. We did a time-limited survey on 5.13.2018 and even though our survey was posted and distributed by the American Indian Movement without our knowledge, the results reflected a 65% KEEP the Redskins name result.

And then there's the American Indian Movement's poll, posted 5.14.2018 and even though they've taken it offline as of 10 am 5.15.18 - the last results shown was a 61% KEEP the Redskins name result.

BRANDING COMMITTEE MEETING 4/2/2018

BRANDING COMMITTEE MEETING 4/16/2018

Time remaining until the Forest Hills School Board makes the decision on the Redskins name/logo:

FACTS MATTER!

DEAR ENQUIRER READER
Please note corrections to the article printed in the June 11, 2018 Cincinnati Enquirer:

  • There are no "competing GoFundMe accounts" as stated by Kelly Holterhoff in the article, and by no means is it a way to vote." The GoFundMe account on this page was set up to offset expenses only. The "Changers" GoFundMe account was set up to try to raise $10,000.00 after the School Board President offered to match it at the Second Branding Committee Meeting. You can watch that offer on the video on this website.
  • Tina Ianelli Downs has not been the spokesperson for this group for over a month.
  • NO mention was made of our petition wanting to keep the name with over 3400 signatures on it.
  • At least the article got ONE thing right - the cost to change the name is well above the $125,000 that the "changers" use as the official number.

DEAR ANDERSON TAXPAYER

OUR SCHOOL DISTRICT CAN'T AFFORD TO CHANGE OUR NAME!!

Just a few reasons why you need to show up Tuesday June 12 at 7:00 pm at Nagel Middle School:

Here’s a quick list of things our community should know:

  1. The majority of the current board is trying to save face. They pushed a levy through that they knew (had written proof) could never work.
  2. There is a multi million dollar contract to buy land for the buses that we CAN'T afford. The majority of the board hasn’t even seen all the details of the contract.
  3. We have other options that two people in particular won’t consider because it will look bad on them personally.
  4. The purchase of the board office is WAY over budget...while Anderson sits in disarray - hold on there’s more... with our purchase of that building we took it off the tax base - this means our district lost $100k in tax revenue.
  5. The property under contract for the buses will also now come off the tax base.
  6. The decision to purchase the property has already been made and signed by Prebles and Frooman - pending board approval. The majority will vote for this and likely not be around to see or feel the repercussions.
  7. Renovate to “new” as we were promised hasn’t happened in any building but Wilson. There are still several projects unfinished. We put a 10 year bandaid on and will be paying for it for the next 30 years...

We have bigger issues... it’s time to take a stand and stop this fiscal irresponsibility ... we are Redskins!!

Did You Know?

  • The Forest Hills School Board is considering eliminating the Anderson High School's 80-year-old "Redskins" name?
  • As of 3/16/18, there are ten (10) other schools in the State of Ohio who are "Redskins" that have not been approached by any organization to request a name change.
  • There are three (3) Native American High Schools located in Arizona, Oklahoma and Washington who use "Redskins" as their team name and they have not been approached to change their team name?
  • The Washington Post completed a national survey that determined 90% of Native Americans are not offended by the "Redskins" name. (www.washingtonpost.com)

"What I find offensive about Indian names for school logos and mascots is that there are individuals who want to eliminate them; to erase the fact that the Native Americans are a big part of the history of the United States. Why not celebrate our heritage and culture? Will the only memory of the Native Americans be a casino?" - CC, Native American, Shawnee Indian, 4/6/18

What should you ask?

  • Why is the team name change being considered a priority when the High School is in the middle of construction that has failed to meet deadlines and budget?
  • Why is the name an issue when the primary concern needs to be education and school safety?
  • Who initiated the drive to change the name, logo and possibly school colors? Are they tied to the district?

Why Should We Care?

  • Re-branding the high school has been estimated to be over a million dollars, which does not include re-surfacing the gym floor, or paint costs to change the colors. In addition, there would be costs to the Boosters and families for new uniforms and sporting equiqment along with re-branding T-shirts and other promotional items. At the State level, this would create a minimum deficit of $10 million dollars if all 10 schools were affected.
  • This ia a District-wide cost - ALL taxpayers would feel the burden of the AHS logo change.
  • Another Operating Levy will be proposed for the 2019 Spring Ballot.

What Can I Do?

  • CALL OR EMAIL THE SCHOOL BOARD - TELL THEM TO "KEEP THE REDSKINS!"
